Bazaar 2010
The annual St Swithun's Church Christmas Bazaar was
held on Saturday 20th November in the village hall. The stalls looked
very bright, with lots of Christmas decorations, Christmas food, including
several excellent Christmas Cakes, a massive craft stall, lots of children's
toys and games besides an Margaret's amazing tombola.
There were games and a 'pub sign quiz', and a raffle, as usual organised
by Roger Dennett. New for 2010 was a HUMAN FRUIT MACHINE, where a small
family picked real fruits form seperate boxes, whilst blindfolded. This
was accompanied by lots of giggles and fun from the children.
The event raised over £1000 for the church funds.

There is also a Social Side
On Whitsunday 2009 a hot celebratory lunch with delicious
deserts was enjoyed by
about 40 parishioners after the Sunday Communion service, which was
led by Tony Johnson (a retired priest living in the village) .
At the service he told us how privileged he was to have had the opportunity
to conduct the three most important services in the Church's year, Christmas,
Easter and Whitsun, but that he would now like to withdraw from those
major services. He has kindly agreed to carry on with some other services
at least until a new priest comes to the parish.

Lawrence Belcher entertained us with one of Cyril Fletcher's
poems he recalls, entitled Sonia Snell.
October 2010 brought a Harvest Hop to Kennington in the
school hall, which was enjoyed by those attending. The band was stunning,
and so (I was told) was some of the dancing. The supper as usual for
the social and fundraising team was up to their high standard, and everyone
went home to recover from the exertions of the dance.
